Now that T-Mobile has launched LTE here in the Twin Cities and they’ve completely revamped their pricing structure, my partner and I are ditching Straight Talk for T-Mobile for essentially the same price.
Currently we are both on Straight Talk paying $45 a month for unlimited talk, text and 2.5GB of data. However, I’ve noticed that with Straight Talk‘s new LTE sim cards streaming does not work as well or is severely throttled. YouTube barely works and Vevo doesn’t work at all. I’ve Google’d my problem and it’s a hit and miss between other Straight Talk users. Some users report no problems while others are experiencing the same issue as me.
T-Mobile now has unlimited talk, text, and 2.5GB of data for 2 phones for $100 a month, if you bring your own phone, which we did. On top of that, you can receive a 15% monthly discount if your a Progressive user, which we are. So for $85 per month we’re essentially paying the same amount as we would with Straight Talk for 2 phones. However, with T-Mobile there’s no throttling video and music and we actually get support that is based in the United States.
This would not work for everyone since some people don’t get good T-Mobile service in the area. However, living in the Twin Cities, AT&T and T-Mobiles LTE coverage is pretty decent, so we can go with either carrier. By the way, Verizon is excellent as well, but I refuse to pay their hefty bill to be on their towers.
